Plain English Summary: ChessGum collects your name, email, phone number, and child's age when you book a demo or enroll. We use this to contact you about your demo class and to improve our services. We use Facebook Pixel and Google Analytics to understand how people find us. We never sell your data to third parties.

1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy applies to ChessGum ("we", "us", "our"), an online chess academy for kids aged 4–15 operating at www.chessgum.com. Our contact email is hello.chessgum@gmail.com.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Personal Identification Information: Name, email address, phone number, and your child's name and age — provided when you fill our demo booking or contact form.
  • Usage Data: Pages you visit, time spent, buttons clicked, browser type, device type, and IP address — collected automatically via cookies and analytics tools.
  • Communications: Any messages or emails you send us directly.
  • Facebook Lead Ad Data: If you submit a lead form through Facebook or Instagram ads, we receive your name, email, and phone number as submitted in that form.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Schedule and confirm your child's free demo class
  • Send you class reminders, updates, and relevant communications
  • Answer your inquiries and provide customer support
  • Improve our website, content, and teaching programs
  • Send promotional communications about ChessGum (you may opt out at any time)
  • Measure and analyze the effectiveness of our Facebook and Google advertising campaigns
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website. These include:

  • Google Analytics (gtag.js): Tracks website traffic, user behavior, and conversions. Data is anonymized. You can opt out via Google's opt-out tool.
  • Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel): Tracks website visits and actions (such as demo form submissions) to measure ad performance and show relevant ads to people on Facebook and Instagram. Learn more at Facebook's Privacy Policy.
  • Ahrefs Analytics: Tracks anonymized page traffic data for SEO analysis.
  • Functional Cookies: Essential cookies required for the website to operate correctly.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some website functionality.

5. Facebook & Instagram Advertising

We run advertising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram (Meta platforms). As part of these campaigns:

  • We use the Meta Pixel on our website to track conversions from our ads (e.g., when someone books a demo after clicking our ad).
  • We may use Custom Audiences — uploading hashed email/phone data to Facebook to reach existing contacts with relevant ads.
  • We may use Lookalike Audiences — Facebook finds new users similar to our existing customers. No raw personal data is shared; only hashed data is used.
  • If you submit a Facebook Lead Ad form, your information is transmitted from Meta to us and is subject to both Meta's Privacy Policy and ours.

You can manage your Facebook ad preferences at facebook.com/ads/preferences.

6. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your data only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: Trusted tools we use to operate (e.g., Google Workspace for email, Vercel for hosting). These providers are contractually bound to protect your data.
  • Meta (Facebook): As described above for advertising purposes only, using hashed/anonymized data.
  • Legal Requirement: If required by law, court order, or government authority.
  • Business Transfer: In the event of a merger or acquisition, data may be transferred with prior notice to users.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations:

  • Demo inquiry data: Retained for up to 12 months after last contact
  • Enrolled student data: Retained for the duration of enrollment + 3 years
  • Analytics data: Retained per Google Analytics / Ahrefs default retention settings

You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing us at hello.chessgum@gmail.com.

8. Children's Privacy

Our services are designed for children aged 4–15, but our website and data collection are directed at parents and guardians, not children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13.

If you believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately at hello.chessgum@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.

  • HTTPS encryption on all pages of our website
  • Access controls limiting who can view personal data internally
  • Using reputable, security-audited third-party services

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
